CARE EUkraine: New project creates opportunities for Ukrainian refugees & counteracts global warming

The project was launched in October to create opportunities for Ukrainian refugees who have recently arrived in Sweden, while combating global warming. The project is run through an official partnership with Help Ukraine and Skyddsvärnet in Gothenburg, Sweden. Over a period of 5.5 months, the 140 participants will carry out a number of sub-projects that will equip them with better conditions to integrate into the Swedish labour market. They are also an integral part of a long-term project outcome in the area of climate change as their work contributes to Europe’s drive to achieve climate neutrality.

The project period will start with an introduction where participants will be helped to adapt their CVs, personal letters and LinkedIn profiles to the Swedish labour market. Participants will then be given a choice of two paths; a “green” job at Sätt Färg på Göteborg (Swedish brand of Youthpower) or IT training.

Participants who are hired by Sätt Färg på Göteborg will participate in digital searches in Google Earth to find the best possible buildings to install white, green and blue roofs. These types of roofs all have a positive effect on the environment as they counteract global warming in different ways. The new arrivals will thus have the opportunity for a rewarding part-time job with a flexible schedule that can easily be combined with studies or other employment. For those who choose the second project focus, a number of courses are offered in coding, web design and IT security. The need for skills in the IT industry is constantly growing and can be performed by people with different mother tongues as programming languages are universal. Participants’ chances of finding employment both in Sweden and internationally after the end of the project period will thus increase significantly.

Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.
